Every year in South Africa, thousands of children are born HIV positive. Many more are infected after birth by their mothers' breast milk. This can be stopped by the Prevention of-Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT).

This programme explains how PMTCT works. It will look at the different ways in which an HIV positive mother can infect her child and the specific methods that can be used to prevent this. These include information on the various PMTCT regimens, both the historical and then current ones, while also shedding light on the debate between breast versus bottle or cup feeding.
